so cs4 runs off the gpu eh? im pretty excited for that!
cs4 is a fucking huge program.you will need close to 25G of free space to install,2Ghz processor(2.8 for HD),2GB but i would recommend more like 4GB of RAM,a OpenGL 2.0 compatible graphics carddedicated 7200rpm hard drive for DV and HDV editing and so on,and still more.there is a package deal with cs4 that is being offered from newegg.com where you can get the master collection and the right video card(PNY VCQUADRO-CX Quadro CX Accelerator with CUDA-enabled H.264 Video Encoding) together for $4100.the master collection is about $2500 and the video card is about $1800.i will say however that the new photoshop is defiantely an upgrade from what cs3 was,but i don'tthink it's worth the amount of money you have to pay to get it.if you have a cs3 already and have registered it,then you can upgrade your cs3 to cs4 for about $500.i would give it about 6 months and you will see the price drop down to around $250 to $350 for the upgrade pack.
i'm a web designer,.net developer, network professional,so ineed these kinds of "toys" in my line of work, but i will still wait and see how far the price will drop in a short period of time,or one of my customers is REALLY thankful and just buys or offers me it,lol!!

CS4 is great I just upgraded it for free..along w/ Lightroom 2
i love my lightroom2.
lol, yeah i know that trick tooOriginally Posted by eViLMunkey
of getting the complete adobe master collection for free with the activation code and doing it over the phone and not through the internet
.the only thing a person would be missing out on by doing it the hack way is the updates, support, news, emails, etc.shit that in my opinion is still not justification enough for paying what they want for the suite
.
yeah, you could do that.some of the things that cs4 does that you would miss out on with just the V-card is as follows:Originally Posted by james
1.)the increased integration among components;not just within one suite either.say for instance you can export a layout that was created in InDesign into an XLF(flash-compatible) format, and then open it in Flash for further editing.
2.)one of PS's impressive core features is the powerful pixel-rendering engine.this feature is now also embedded in other programs such as Fireworks.
3.)you can import and embed more adobe file types into various other cs4 programs.
4.)direct editing after import is easier than before through the enhanced Adobe Bridge.you can manage and search among your projects, support files, and other elements, and access Version Cue(workgroup file management) and Device Central(lets you preview and test content for use on a variety of mobile devices).
5.)there is an upgraded dodge, burn, and sponge retouch feature as well as full-canvas(workspace) rotation and live nondestructive corrections.
6.)one of the best new features in my opinion is the content aware scaling.what this is let's say you have a landscape-oriented picture with someone in the center foreground, some nice scenery in the left-hand midground, and a way-too-wide expanse of ocean and sky in the background.you can tell PS(sometimes it is self-aware though) to be "aware" of that person and the scenery.you then would scale the picture horizontally, and PS would maintain the aspect ratio of the selected items and surrounding pixels but would scale everything else smoothly.the result would be a portrait-oriented picture that has the focus placed on the person and not the broad expanse of everything else!!
7.)the vector-graphic design suite Illustrator lets you have multiple different-sized artboards in a single document,or you could open multiple documents and use the new tabbed interface to toggle, copy, drag, drop objects, etc. betweent them quickly.
8.)there are a few new improvements that are for the designers out there.such improvements are transparent gradients,spring-loaded icons whose menus will open when you drag objects to them, and WYSIWYG clipping masks!!
wait why would i miss out on this? i was simply LOL'ing at the fact that you would pay for cs4.Originally Posted by guinness
I mean i totally respect it, otherwise they would go out of business. I suppose I will actually fork over the money when I graduate.

I'm currently trying to convince work to get cs4 master for us, but thank you to the economy its becoming a bitch to do lol. But if they get it then I can um use it. Its actually cool if you buy 1 copy you technically have 2 licenses.
As for my setup:
q6600 2.4ghz oc to 3.2ghz quad core
4gb DDR2 1200
1.5tb hd (just a series of 500gb drives)
